7 Things To Do On Sunday For A Better Week

I am a creature of habit. This is something I have learned about myself. I am most happy when I am sticking to my routine. Sure, I love a good weekend away or a fun unplanned event, but for the most part, I like to stick to a pretty general schedule. I know not everyone is like me, I just can't figure out why? ;)

I have a few things that I tend to do every Sunday that help me feel prepared and organized for the week ahead:

Grocery shopping
I try to go to the grocery store only once a week. I do sometimes have to go mid week for fresh fruits and veggies, but I like to get as much on Sunday as I can. That way, everything is there when I need it and I don't have to think about it. I only have to cook for myself, which is easy (but also a little boring at times), and I tend to stick to the same foods during the week. I bring my own bags and scan and bag as I go, so I'm in and out pretty quickly!

I'm not much of a meal prep person (kudos to those that are, I admire you!), but I do like to have a general idea of what I will be eating throughout the week. As I said, I tend to eat the same things, so planning isn't too hard. I like to make egg muffins on Sundays and then I can grab them throughout the week to add to my lunch (I usually freeze half and pull them out the night before). This week, I am making a batch of butternut squash soup to have for dinners during the week. I just makes it easier for me to have containers in the fridge that I can grab and heat up rather than eating out or making popcorn ;)

I always run the vacuum and clean the bathrooms on Sunday. And no, I do not have a cleaning service. My theory is, if you keep up with cleaning, it's really not such a big deal. Sure, sometimes you have to get a little deeper and get out the mop and bucket, but for the most part, as long as you clean as you go throughout the week, this really shouldn't take too long.

I always do my laundry on Sundays. I'm not sure why people think laundry is such a big deal to do? The machine literally does it for you (duh)! I love starting the week with a fresh clean closet and knowing I can put on anything I want.

Fresh sheets and towels
My friend's mom used to call the first night with fresh sheets on the bed "hotel night" and to this day, I think of that when I change the sheets and crawl into my fresh bed. I spritz my sheets with lavender spray and I swear, its my best night's sleep all week!

I always try to do some form of exercise on Sunday. Whether it's a nice walk outside or a yoga session, I just feel like it sets the tone for the week and gets me off on the right foot.

Does it sound like my Sundays are packed? Haha, I can see that, but they're really not. It's actually all stuff that I don't mind doing. And believe it or not, I still have plenty of time to relax and unwind before the new week begins :)

I know I'm ready for the new week. Are you?

Four Thoughts: Vol 2

Even though it's snowing out as I type this (yes, again), my mind has been on cleaning and organizing. I came across this article on The Glitter Guide and I realized that yes, my digital world needs Spring cleaning too! This piece has so many good ideas of ways to make our digital worlds less overwhelming (my photo roll is in desperate need of attention!). One idea that I actually have already been using for about two years now is Let me tell you, this baby is a lifesaver! It pulls all of your subscription emails and lets you decide whether you want to unsubscribe, keep them in your inbox, or add them to your "roll up". Then, you get one email a day that contains everything you have rolled up. To be honest, most days I don't even open these emails (I don't need to be tempted by the new arrivals at Nordstrom, thank you!), but I love it because it takes them out of my inbox and I have so much less clutter!

Not going to lie, I am still listening to Body Kindness. And I'm still loving it, of course! I usually get to listen to podcasts when I go for a walk and we are just having the most awful weather here in the Northeast, so it's been more of an indoor, yoga kind of week ;)

I guess once again, I'm late to the party, but I just realized that David Letterman has a new show on Netflix. Growing up, my sister and I used to tape Late Night and we watched it religiously. So I was excited to see Dave's new show and he does not disappoint! Not to get political (don't want to go there, haha), but the episode with Barack Obama was so good! Dave really is such a good interviewer and it's always interesting to listen to a past President (in my opinion). So good to see Dave back in his element!

So, I have been seeing these bags alllll over Instagram for months now, and I am seriously contemplating getting one of my own. I love the classic, preppy feel of them them and the fact that they are so customizable! I may or may not have already designed my perfect style ;)

New Arrivals 3.13.18

Home again today for yet another snow day. Enough already! But this week's new arrivals are making me think Spring-y thoughts for sure! How gorgeous are these pieces?! Ideal for Easter, Mother's Day, or any old regular day ;)

Four Thoughts: Vol. 1

Welcome to Four Thoughts!  I'm always finding interesting things throughout the week (well, interesting to me, anyway!) and I thought it would be fun to share some of them here.

I found this piece from Cupcakes & Cashmere (via The Everygirl) and I thought Emily shared such good ideas.  Healthy eating on a week to week basis can be a challenge, especially when all of us have busy schedules.  I find that some weeks I am really good and some weeks, I just give up.  Like Emily, I also hate the word diet.  It feels so restrictive, no?  Thoughtful planning and having healthy snacks on hand can make a big difference!

I started reading Body Kindness by Rebecca Scritchfield recently and I am really enjoying it.  Again, emphasis on not using the word diet.  Notice a theme here (haha)?  Rebecca explains how dieting is not the answer, but rather to listen to your body as it tells you what it needs.  Especially as I get older, I find this is becoming more and more important.  So I was excited to discover that there is also a podcast that goes along with it!  I have only listened to one episode so far, but I loved it and definitely am adding this to my Podcast Playlist :)

So, a few weeks ago, I was looking for a new show to watch and nothing was grabbing my attention.  But, as I was searching through Hulu, I came across Ugly Betty.  I had already watched the series years ago, but I started watching it again.  And guess what?  It's just as good the second time around!  Not only does this show have a great message (looks aren't everything, kindness and goodness matter), it's also just so colorful and fun to watch.  If you're just coming off of watching something really heavy, this is a great choice :)

This week's Shopbop sale had me looking at the site a lot ;)  There are so many cute pieces!  Here are some of my favorites, all under $200:

New Arrivals 3.6.18

I don't know about where you are, but here in the Northeast, we are expecting a huge snowstorm tomorrow.  Combine that with that fact that EVERYONE on social media seems to be on a warm, sunny beach right now, and I am dreaming of summer.
That's the inspiration for this week's new arrivals.  How amazing are these pieces?  Don't they just make you think of summer?  I can't wait to pair these with my summer dresses (hopefully I won't have to wait too long)!

New Arrivals 2.5.18

I'm really excited about his week's new arrivals!  When I saw the Thierry Earrings, I knew immediately that I wanted them in the boutique.  Why?  Well, for starters, I am such a sucker for anything tortoise.  I just love that look, any time of the year.  But also, they look just like the Hermes style, but for a fraction of the price.  Can't beat that! I got so excited that I did an IG poll to see if everyone else was as excited as I was.  Guess what?  It was about 50/50.  Oh well, my boutique, my rules ;)  Okay, not usually, but in this case I went out on a limb and got them anyway because I really hope that everyone will love them as much as I do :)  Anyone have any great vacations planned?

Some Little Changes

When I first started Sparkle & Whim, the idea of having a blog attached to the boutique never even crossed my mind.  As the boutique grew, and my time on social media grew along with it, I became a reader of quite a few blogs and I found myself really enjoying them.  So much so, in fact, that I wanted to start a blog of my own and so I began this little space a few years ago.
The problem was, I have never been consistent with posting.  And when I do, the content seems less than authentic.  But because I never really advertise the posts and I am not entirely sure anyone ever looks at the blog at all, I guess that didn't really matter.
So I have decided to revamp things a bit.  I would like to write about things that actually do interest and inspire me, when they interest and inspire me.  So if I don't post for a while, I won't beat myself up about that.  I have changed the topics and labels, and so a lot of the older posts aren't even going to show up anymore, and I think I am okay with that ;)  I love my boutique site so much and I hope to make this blog an equal companion to that.  To stay true to who I am and post things truly of interest to me while keeping things pretty and bright.  You know, sparkly!

2018: A Different Approach

Does anyone else feel like New Year's Resolutions just shouldn't be a thing?  I get the idea behind making them.  It's a new year, a clean slate, why not take the opportunity to make positive changes, right?  Except that no one ever keeps them.  Or, if you're like me, you never even actually start them (oops!).

Looking back at 2017, I realized that the best things that happened to me happened when I wasn't really looking.  I found an amazing job that I love getting out of bed for everyday on a total whim.  I didn't even realize that I wanted to switch jobs.  But it all fell into place and just felt right.  I rekindled a great friendship that had been suffering over the past few years and I realized that everyone is put into your life for a reason (good or bad) and some people are meant to be there forever while others are only there for a short while.  I started to take a look at my financial future and started taking little steps to make sure it's on the right track.

The moral is, nothing good that happened was forced.  Nothing was something I had to obsess over.  The good things just happened.  And the things that I have tried to force, maybe aren't working out so well.  So maybe not meant to be.

So I love this quote as a mantra for 2018.  It's kind of like how they say if you stop looking, the right guy will come along.  I think that applies to everything.  The universe gives back what you put out, isn't that that idea?

Happy 2018!
