Style Crush: Lace Tops

You know how some people just have things that they are clearly drawn to?  That's me with lace tops.  It's like a no brainer style choice in my mind.  Pair it with jeans and flats for the day, dress it up with a skirt and heels for dinner.  Easy, breezy ;)  Lucky for me, lace is a style staple that isn't going anywhere any time soon.  Ever, probably.

Life Lessons From My Cats

I've always grown up with cats in the house.  From the time I was two years old, we have always had cats, usually two at a time and I can't imagine life any other way.  The guy in the photo above is Max and I have definitely had more of a connection with him than any other cat I have known.  A lot of people don't really understand what cats are about.  I say, how sad for them ;)  Think dogs are better?  I beg to differ!  Max greets me every time I come home.  He sits on the couch with me while I watch TV and he sleeps on his pillow right next to my head.  He's every bit as loyal as a dog.  And frankly, better, because he cleans himself and uses the litter box (usually...) ;)

Weekend in Vermont

A few weeks ago, I took a weekend trip up to Vermont to visit my friend Jodi.  Having spent some time in Burlington at UVM (a year and a half- long story), I was excited to go back as it had been quite a while.

Easy Style Upgrade: Hair Accessories

I have almost always had long hair.  I say almost because there was a time in middle school that I thought I looked better with a sort of bob style hair cut.  Looking back on it, it didn't look that bad, and middle school is a time to experiment with style, right?
But even when my hair was shorter, I loved my hair accessories.  I had a drawer full of pretty pieces to put in my hair.  I had a ribbon hanging on my wall which held all of my beloved bow barrettes.  I think I even once experimented in the 90's with those mini butterfly clips (only one time, and borrowed from a friend, I swear!).  I moved on to scarf print headbands (I had a basket full of them).

20 Things About Me

I feel like I put so much of myself into Sparkle & Whim (okay, not so much the blog part lately, haha) and I yet I don't really share anything personal about myself.  I have connected with a few bloggers over these past three years (so hard to believe!), but I am mostly behind the scenes.  So, I thought I would fill out a little Get To Know Me questionnaire as I am sure everyone is just dying to know more about me ;)

RosÉ Gummy Bears

I have been wanting to make Rosé gummy bears for at least a year now.  I don't really know why that is, but I have ;)  Maybe the fact that they're just so darn cute has something to do with it, who knows?  Anyway, I finally got around to making the little guys last weekend and to be honest, I am having mixed feelings about them.  Are they adorable to look at?  Absolutely!  Are they the best thing I've ever eaten?  Not so much.  As my mom put it, "I'd rather just drink a glass of wine."  Amen, sister!

In My Cart: Summer Blues

My favorite color is pink (stay with me here).  And although I love everything pink, when I look at my closet and my home, there is really no pink in sight.  My closet is mostly blue.  I think when I shop, I tell myself I already own too much pink and so I always go for blue.  So you would probably assume blue is my favorite color.  Tricky, right?

A Day in Alexandria

This past weekend, my mom, my sister, and I took a trip down to D.C. to visit my aunt.   While I say we went to D.C., we actually spent most of our time outside of the district.  Having spent my entire life visiting the area, it wasn't until a few years ago that I was introduced to Alexandria, VA.  I fell in love with this city immediately!  I couldn't wait to go back to Old Town and spend the day among the shops and admiring all of the old charm that the city offers.

What's in My Suitcase: Weekend in D.C.

I am so excited to be heading to D.C. with my mom and my sister this weekend for a very brief, much needed break. Technically, Washington is my hometown. But as we moved away when I was 2 and I really grew up in CT, I find that claim sometimes hard to make.  But my mom grew up there, my parents met and were married there, and I have been going there my entire life.  It is one of my favorite places (if not definitely my favorite).

5 Easy Summer Hair Styles

My hair is naturally curly.  Curlier on some days, wavier on others.  You will rarely see me sporting my curls.  I just feel undone unless my hair is blown out.  In the summer, however, it gets harder and harder to fight the frizz, so there are days when I will embrace my curls and waves and just go with it.
Summer is also a great time to try out fun new hairstyles.  As my fashion tastes lean more toward the boho vibe in the summer, I am also drawn to pretty braided looks and messy updos.

Style Crush: Ruffled Dresses

Middle: first, second
Bottom: first, second, third

I'm that girl who just lives in dresses all summer. While the past few summers I have been all about my striped dresses (and I still am, don't get me wrong, haha), I have been drawn to ruffles this year.  I love the soft feminine look of a ruffled dress.  They can make the most basic silhouette look so pretty.

Style Crush: Statement Earrings

Owning a jewelry boutique, you might expect that I am dripping in jewels at all times.  Hardly.  Most days, I wear simple studs (usually these) and either my Grande Monogram or my Roman Numeral Necklace.  I have pretty simple taste.

I do, however, love to perk up a simple outfit with a great statement earring.  A simple sweater and jeans looks so much better with a flash of sparkle.

Roasted Veggies and Chicken

I have been attempting to be a little healthier lately.  Two weeks ago I did a great job, last week I didn't.  Oh well ;)

One thing that is really easy for me to drop the ball on is lunch during the week.  It's just so easy to
run out and grab a deli sandwich.  And you have to have chips with that, right?  So better to just bring my lunch and not even put myself in that position.

Spring Fashion Trends

cold shoulder top / slip on sneaker / cross body bag / mule / bomber jacket

Up until a few days ago, I (like most of us) thought we were going to just forget about winter and glide right into spring.  As it is currently 28 degrees out, I can admit that I was very wrong.  So instead, I have been dreaming of spring fashion.  It's always so nice to put away the coats and the boots and say goodbye to sweaters.  I can't wait for lighter tops and less layers!  Here are a few trends I am loving for spring:

Caring For Your Jewelry

It's no secret that I love jewelry.  Not a day goes by that I don't have at least a pair of earrings on.  And usually, it's more.  I believe that jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed, not locked away for a "special occasion".  Where's the fun in that?
Of course, from time to time, all pieces need to be freshened up.  We want our pieces to always look

Corn Chowder

While I totally love Thanksgiving, I am so overloaded on turkey right now!  After three nights in a row of leftovers, I was definitely feeling like something totally different tonight.  I was heading to the grocery store and trying to think of what I might like instead and it hit me...  Corn chowder.
I am such a fan of corn.  Corn on the cob, corn muffins, corn bread, corn fritters, I'll take it in any

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, you guys!  I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank all of you for being the best friends and supporters these past two years.  I am truly grateful for all of you :)  Sparkle & Whim is my creative outlet and I am so thankful for the opportunity to share it with all of you.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day planned with friends and family.  I will be  working on the site a

Style Crush: Holiday Dresses

I am such a fan of the holidays.  The music, the decorations, there is nothing about this time of year that doesn't make me smile.  And maybe the best part?  Holiday dresses!  What other time of year can you get as decked out as you can right now?  And there are so many options, from sequins, to velvet, to feathers, to lace, anything goes :)

Lavender Spray

I may not always have the most healthy habits (I try, okay!? :) ), but the one thing I am very good about is getting my sleep.  I know from experience that I really need a good night's sleep or I am just useless the next day.
I am pretty lucky with my sleep habits.  I have friends who have a lot of trouble getting to sleep or

New Uses For Broken Jewelry

We all have those pieces of jewelry laying around that we can't wear anymore.  Right now, I am looking at a necklace that I dropped a few weeks ago.  It broke and while I'm sure I could fix it, chanced are I won't.  But it's so pretty, I don't have the heart to throw it away.  Yesterday being a typical Sunday morning, I was exploring Pinterest and came across all of these amazing uses for

My Favorite Jeans

I own a LOT of jeans.  I'm a retail girl and as my last job was in a clothing boutique, I was able to get many good pairs at cost, so why not?!  As a result, I have a few dresser drawers devoted to jeans.  AG, J Brand, Joe's, Hudson; I've got them.  And don't get me wrong, they are all great.  I definitely learned the benefit of good denim.  It is softer, it has more stretch, it is more comfortable, and it lasts

A Day At Grace Farms

This past Sunday, my friend Jessica and I went to brunch and then she suggested we go check out Grace Farms.  I jumped at it, as I have been wanting to go for a while now.
Grace Farms is in New Canaan, CT and it is absolutely stunning.  It is set on 80 acres and is a beautiful place to spend the day.  We mainly wandered around and just enjoyed the beautiful day.

Thoughts on Two Years

I am having to pinch myself a little bit that Sparkle & Whim has actually been around for TWO YEARS!  I find that a little hard to believe, honestly.  This started as kind of a challenge to myself.  Could I figure out how to build an online business?  And it looks like I did!
Every day with S&W has just been so much fun.  And such a learning experience.  One of my
